Spirit & Place: A festival of fun and Food for Thought

A key Indianapolis cultural event since 1996, the Spirit & Place festival grew out of a project conducted by Indiana Universitys Polis Center in the 1990s that studied the connection between spiritual practices and inner-city life in the Circle City. Since then, the festival engages more than 15,000 people through a series of events and discussions each November. This year its Nov. 5-14, and its theme will be Food for Thought..

About Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington is the seat of Indiana University. In the area are Hoosier National Forest and lakes Monroe and Lemon. Bloomington's Indiana University campus is regarded one of the most beautiful university campuses in the U.S. In 1991, Thomas Gaines, a landscape artist, published a book, The Campus As a Work of Art, and in it he named the Bloomington campus one of the five most beautiful campuses in America.

IU Bloomington was chosen as the "Hottest Big State School" in the 10th annual Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide, which appeared in the 2005 issue of Newsweek magazine. The IU campus is admired as being one of the most beautiful college campuses in the nation. The campus has an abundance of flowering plants and trees, and attractive limestone buildings.

IU Bloomington also leads the Big Ten public universities in the number of endowed faculty positions: over 1,823 full-time faculty members, and over 300 chairs, professorships, and curators are a part of the campus.

Accommodations
Indiana Memorial Union Hotel, is rated as tops in Bloomington. Also city hotels include: the Century Suites Hotel, Summerhouse Inn, Premier Family Hotel. Eagle Pointe Golf Resort, borders Lake Monroe and is located inside Hoosier national forest. Courtyard by Marriott is conveniently located adjacent to the Convention Center and within walking distance of the IU campus.
Fourwinds Resort & Marina is a tropical -style resort. Views of the rolling hills and a Caribbean feel are welcoming in the lakeside resort. Grant Street Inn, a bed and breakfast inn, is close to Indiana University and the courthouse square. Some rooms have fireplaces and inviting porches.

Restaurants

Colorado Steak House with a lodge-style building serves steak and wood-fired prime rib specialties. The Encore Cafe is a cafeteria-style restaurant, where everything is made fresh daily. Esan Thai, serves an authentic Thai meal in an exotic atmosphere. Indiana Memorial Union, is an experience in the unique grandeur of the beautiful Indiana University campus in Bloomington.

Malibu Grill is sought after as it has received Readers Choice Awards. Scholars Inn Gourmet Cafe & Wine Bar is a restored 150-year-old historic mansion with a varied menu.

Shopping
Bloomington Antique Mall has a fine collection of America's past with over 120 shops of antiques and collectibles. Fountain Square Mall is a historic structure with original storefronts yet offering conveniences of an indoor mall. Fountain Square Mall is located downtown on the square across from the courthouse.
Textillery Weavers has more than 500 styles and colors of hand woven throw blankets at the 37,000 square foot studio, and where weavers produce the luxurious hand-woven textiles.

Major Attractions
The Lilly Library is one of the largest rare book and manuscript libraries in the United States; the library now contains approximately 400,000 rare books, 6.5 million manuscripts, and 100,000 pieces of sheet music.

The IU Art Museum has collections that contain over 30,000 objects including works by Claude Monet and Jackson Pollock. The IU Art Museum is also ranked as one of the top five university art museums along with Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.
